This has got to be the worst place to eat in the entire White Mountains. Don't bother.

Very casual atmosphere, nothing fancy. Fabulous tacos topped with fresh salsa from self-serve salsa bar with a wonderful variety. Friendly service was exactly what we would want... Not over the top!

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! While visiting at the hospital nearby I went to this place for lunch. The place was moderately busy - not full by any means. I was sitting for 15 minutes before the "hostess" took my order. FIFTY (50) minutes later I got my food and it was COLD! Not room temp cold, but cold from the fridge cold. The "green chile" in the cold tortilla burrito was a little warm. The corn tortilla taco shell and the chicken, lettuce and tomatoes in it were fresh out of the fridge. I sent it back and they simply stuck the entire plate in the oven (?) as-is. Everything came back warm but the "green chile" in the burrito wasn't any warmer than before. The couple at the table next to me, who ordered just after I did, we're still waiting for their food. The chicken in my food was clearly pre-cooked, like from Costco. There was zero flavor to it and it was dry. Simply putting canned diced green chile in a rúe does not green chile make. The two salsas in the self-serve bar were laughable - watered down tomato soup and watered down tomato soup with liquid smoke and cilantro. To end the experience, the waitress assumed I was tipping her $4.04 when I placed $15 in the tray for the $10.96 ticket. I had to ask for my change! Taco Bell is within walking distance and a MUCH better option.

I can not comment on the food because our family sat down, took one look around, and ran away. The dining area was filthy, and the woman behind the bar had a very foul mouth.

Decent good, nothing worth driving out of your way. Customer service was friendly and attentive. I had the Carne Asada tacos, the meat was a little dry and the tortilla over warmed. If it was the only place open, I'd eat here again.

Mateo's wasn't bad it just wasn't very good. Service was pleasant and attentive. I got chips when I was seated...no salsa. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. Notice that's plural. When the fajitas arrived there was shrimp sizzling with red pepper and onion, beans, rice, a huge amount of guacamole and sour cream and 1 flour tortilla. The shrimp was just ok. Beans and rice not so good. Grilled pepper and onion were ok. Guac was not so great. Chips but no salsa, fajitas with only one tortilla? That would be a fajita, not fajitas right?

I live in the area and regularly stop in for breakfast, dine out at lunch with coworkers on occasion, and stop in with the family at least monthly. I don't know if it's because the staff know me well or not but the food and service we receive is always great. I know from personal experience that the food and service were sub par at one point but in the last 12 plus months I feel they have stepped up their game. They are a very casual establishment and the speed of service may reflect that. I never feel rushed, nor do I feel forgotten about. Try the Mexican Crisp with green sauce, chicken and beef. It's a family favorite. Ask for light lettuce, they do tend to go a bit crazy with it. Tell Tracy, Lisa, Juan and the staff Heather sent you.

Horrible food, customer service and drinks. My sister had a baby at a near by hospital and my mom and I went here to get lunch and margaritas. All the staff was new with the exception of one lady who was I'm assuming was the owner. The food: the mahi tacos tasted stale. The fish was fried which is what I asked for but it was burnt and it was all read not fish. My mom has the carne aside burro and there was hardly any meat and very dry. On their nachos they were also stale and were just cheese nothing else. We were told that if we wanted anything on them there would be an extra charge per ideas. My brother in law got fries and he said they tasted disgusting. Customer Service: had no food knowledge so when we asked if things were spicy or not they said they didn't know or said yes it is and it wasn't at all. When we were sat they brought chips only no salsa. Everything took a very long time to get. Even the check. Drinks: we ordered margaritas. When she brought them to the table and it was all mix. We asked for another shot and explained why but they still charged $5 per shot. So 4 regular size margaritas and 2 large margaritas with extra shots(because they were all mix no alcohol) we paid $78. However, when we got the bill everything was marked "open food" which is how any restaurant can over charge you because they manually enter in the price. When we asked them to explain the charges they got very defensive and rude. We know they ripped us off. Do not go to the restaurant

Food is lousy. Had a chimmi which must have been heated in microwave instead of deep frying. Lot of chicken in it, but no real flavor. If you order combo plates, beans and rice is extra. Never seen this before. Ordered a frozen margarita and came just like a glass of water. Was not frozen. Menu says senior gets 10% discount. Don't hold your breath waiting. Better Mexican locations to be had.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
